Work, play, big city, wide open countryside – it’s all on your doorstep in Shipley.
The town has a long history. It is referenced in the Domesday Book, but it was the Industrial Revolution that turned Shipley from a sleepy hamlet to a textile powerhouse. Today, the town serves largely as a commuter base to the larger cities nearby and as a result has a broad range of properties for sale or rent.
There’s great food here too, with highly rated Chinese, Malaysian, Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, in addition to excellent local fayre. And if you’re a soaps fan, the original location of Emmerdale (it’s actually Esholt) is close by. The Woolpack is still serving good beer and food too…
Shipley has its own train station. Trains are every 10 minutes and the journey to Bradford Central takes just 10 minutes. Journeys to Leeds take only fractionally longer, making Shipley a great base for quick, simple commutes.
A drive from Shipley to Bradford takes around 12 minutes in moderate traffic – a little longer at peak times.
Shipley has an Aldi and an Asda, with pretty much every other supermarket available on its doorstep (Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s are all just a few minutes’ drive away).
There is a local swimming pool and a range of gyms and fitness centres to choose from, with further pools and leisure centres in Eccleshill and Keighley. You’ll also find a bowling alley, ice rink and sailing centre within a 5 mile radius.
